A CAPITAL IDEA

We spent the afternoon in Washington today. Mostly spent at the Smithsonian American History Museum. All the Smithsonian Museums are free. Pretty amazing.
Behind this dazzling modern version of the American flag is "The Star-Spangled Banner. It is in a darkened room to protect the fragile fabric.
This is a photo of it when it was displayed out in the daylight. It once measured 30' x 42', but during the 1800s people cut off souvenirs of the red and white stripes (and a star!) reducing it to 30x32.
This is the first Washington Monument. At it's unveiling they thought
George Washington looked silly in a Grecian robe.
